I was waiting at a boba shop for my order to be finished when I overheard a conversation between a father and son. To put in the simplest terms, the father was trying to explain to the child that some people are just naturally better than others at certain things and that was just how life works. The little boy looked so confused and asked his father why life was so unfair. His father only said that to make up for that gap, he would just have to work really hard. This got me thinking. How far in life would just relying on talent take you? There must be some endpoint where pure talent can’t fulfill the job. Also, can pure dedication and hard work ever surpass talent? There are many students in our school who breeze by in honors and AP classes while other students are working their butts off only to receive a low grade in their class. I don’t quite understand the gray area where these two things.
